hey fam!
thanks so much for all of the letters! i love hearing about how you are doing and everything. first of all happy birthday dad! i hope it was great! im stoked you all had a blast at the beach house! dad i cant believe you stinkin ate it on the longboard that is hilarious/ scary/ ouch! dont feel like a dope though i want you to continue to be young, just dont kill yourself doing crazy things until after i get home ok? so from what i hear if i understood correctly you guys miss me? ha ha well i want you all to know i miss each of you individually in different ways and as a family. i love you all so much and love hearing from you. but dont let yourselves feel sad when you miss me, just smile and be happy that i have this awesome opportunity. it does no good to be sad. i love you all so much and i have found a way to continue to miss you but not feel homesick.
this week has been a lot better than last week, i am understanding more of the language, i can communicate with the people a little better everyday and i am not feeling sad when i think of you guys. i have learned so much patience and humility from elder bentancur its great. we love each other but we have our difficulties. dont worry its nothing serious but pray for unity for us.
london thats cool that the china thing looks good, that would be killer! i know it would be a perfect experience for you! keep me updated, including your feelings about it. mom im so glad you can close your eyes and still see me and imagine me. i can always imagine you guys and i love thinking of the good times. dad thanks for the help and suggestions. i think i sleeping bag would be killer! you dont need to send one ASAP but i think i would love that. and ya i will prob buy a heater or somethin soon. something i could use are those earmuff things that clip around the back of your head cause we can wear beanies but they are kinda discouraged. as far as food goes i pretty much miss everything so you can send whatever ha ha. but dont worry mom im ok dont wig out and send me 10 packages ha. the packages and mail are sent to the office and each zone meeting we have we pick up our mail. i think dear elder would be the fastest way to send me recipes that i can look at. it usually takes about a week i think for a dear elder to come. but i think that would be the best way. i was able to recieve the pictures! holy calf! (pun intended). thats insane i hope your are ok dad ha ha. marcus thanks for the letter i cant wait to see all your cool clothes you bought and stuff. about the job thing, just get one its not that bad ha ha. it really is a good thing and you get money ever two weeks and can spend it on whatever you want, who cares where you work just get a job so you dont have to continue working for free ha ha.
so we have this family that we teach that consists of 2 daughters around 10 years old, a mom in her 30s and her mom in her 50s. they remind me exactly of the family on practical magic, the family of witches. they all live together and have a bunch of cats and laugh and cook and have a messy house and love us and just have a good time. yesterday, the grandma, hermana guerrero made a bunch of calzones rotos which are similar to the scones you make on halloween mom, they are delicious! she kept feeding us some and gave us some to take home. there are also empanadas here that i havent tried but they look delicious! and a thing called sopapias. they are round and flat and yellow and are scone like as well . mom you need to write these down so you can get the recipes when you come down. i love them! i just dont know how to ask for recipes and stuff ha ha. there is also another family, the flores family, they have some teenage boys, their parents and their grandparents and other relatives. they all live together and just enjoy each other. they are all loud and just sit around and watch tv, eat, and laugh, i love going over to their house. many of them are members but there are a few that arent. as soon as we enter their house they turn off the tv,invite us to the table, bring us coke or other soda, and some toast (on this different bread which is delicious), and invite everyone to the table where we talk and laugh and eat all the toast we possibly can. then we teach them a lesson. antor, one of the adults, loves the gospel but doesnt feel like its his time to be baptized so we are working on him. there are also 2 19 year olds we are working on as well. one has a baptismal date for next month and another loves to hammer us with questions and we are trying to help him but he just needs to excercise faith and believe.
the grandma we've been teaching has slowed her progression a little but we are continuing to teach her. she is a widow and has dreams of her spouse telling her not to join the church. these dreams really affect her progression. we are helping her though and i believe she will soon be baptized. as far as other investigators go we have a bunch and right now have 17 baptismal dates. not all of them will happen, but im thinking next month we should have at least 10. also we have found some other families that just have a light in their eyes when we teach them. they have set baptism dates and they are ready. its hard to understand how people continue on in this life without the gospel. i cant live without it.
we had the opportunity to go to the temple this week and eat at the presidents house, for the last time because we get our new pres tomorrow, and the temple was awesome. i was able to relax and let my mind focus on the temple. it was all in spanish but at times i had a headset to help me. oh ya somethin funny, when we were teaching the practical magic family, we were watching a movie on the restoration and this fly kept on crawling on the tv. very distracting so i leaned forward and hit the tv with my planner and tried to hit the fly, well i thought i missed and we continued watching and them i felt some thing on the back of my planner. it was the fly. i had nailed it and it was half smooshed onto my planner. we all had a good laugh and now i have fly guts stained on my new planner ha ha. it was very funny. well i gotta go, last word, next package you send could you send my wallet that i sent home, and also maybe some frito bean dip, the salsa stinks here so i need some bean dip, well thats all i can think of right now, i love you all so much and ill talk to you later.
love elder peterson

Where could a 19 year old boy go and learn about life and tolerance and unconditional love and a passion to work until he falls into bed asleep at night, and a testimony that will be with him forever, and an ability to care for people so much he actually physically feels their feelings... and on top of all of that love his family so intensely and yet willingly spends two years serving with all his might mind and strength. How cool is this church and how cool is Chance. We love him so!
